An ferroalloy consisting of molybdenum and iron, usually containing molybdenum 50 to 60%, used as an alloy additive in steelmaking. Ferromolybdenum is an alloy of molybdenum and iron. Its main use is in steelmaking as molybdenum element additive. The addition of molybdenum into the steel can make the steel have uniform fine crystal structure, improve the hardenability of the steel, and help to eliminate the temper brittleness. Molybdenum can replace some tungsten in high speed steel. Molybdenum, in combination with other alloying elements, is widely used in the production of stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, acid-resistant steel, tool steel, and alloys with special physical properties. Molybdenum is added to cast iron to increase its strength and wear resistance.
